NATO's reaction to Turkey to buy Chinese missiles

NATO Secretary-General dated 22/10, said he hoped Turkey would keep in mind the perspective of the military alliance when considering a missile defense deal with China.



Speaking at a press conference in the framework of a meeting of defense ministers of the member countries at NATO headquarters in Brussels ( Belgium ) on 22/10 , Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Turkey, a member NATO , the device can be purchased from any source revealed after Ankara accepted the possibility of the Chinese bid to build a missile defense system 's first long-range Turkey.
" Our view is very clear . Acquisition device is one of a national decision ," Mr. Rasmussen said .
" However, from the point of view of NATO , the most important thing is the system that the country of purchase must be compatible with similar systems in other allied nations ," he said .
" I believe that Turkey 's NATO said this stance ... and will consider it carefully before making a final decision ," NATO Secretary General said .
Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz Turkey earlier this month said China gave the best price for the missile defense system .
A Chinese company beat competitors from the U.S. , Russia , and Europe to win contracts worth about $ 4 billion .
Turkey is a key U.S. ally in the region and is the Patriot missile system being built by the United States to deploy on its borders in order to prevent attacks from Syria .
Mr Rasmussen said the defense ministers from the 28 member nations discussed missile defense against attacks from the outside .
The next step in the missile defense system will witness " a breakthrough in the Aegis system on the ground " in Romania at the end of October , NATO Secretary General said .
Russia has voiced strong opposition to the plans of NATO missile defense , worried that the system might endanger the security of this country .
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu is likely to raise the issue on the day 23/10 after his meeting with NATO counterparts in Russia - NATO Council .
He Rasmusen said ministers also discussed cooperation issues , a necessary step to overcome the impact of the defense budget is tight , and increase the large-scale military exercises .
