Pirates of U.S. oil supply ships, 2 sailors kidnapped

A group of pirates attacked a U.S. oil supply vessel off the coast of Nigeria and arrested two American sailors.





U.S. authorities on 24/10 , said the armed men who attacked the ship C - Retriever American flag a day earlier , and arrested the captain of a ship engineer .

U.S. officials attack on 23/10 was not a terrorist act , but concerns about the proliferation of pirate activity off the coast of west Africa .

C oil supply vessel Retriever was attacked by gunmen near Brass , a coastal town in the oil-rich Bayelsa state of Nigeria .

The captain and chief engineer of the ship , both Americans , were kidnapped , while the other ship and 11 crew were released .

International Maritime Bureau ( IMB ) has recorded more than 40 attacks in the West Africa region this year , with 132 crew members abducted . The group of pirates targeting tankers to steal oil .

Estimation of oil worth nearly $ 100 million was stolen from tankers since 2010 .

In recent months , there was a series of kidnappings of foreign oil workers and wealthy Nigerians , especially in the Niger Delta region produce more oil . The victims are often detained until a ransom is paid .
